Half Marathons in Florida – Islamorada Half Marathon in December 2020
According to announcements released by Islamorada Running Company and Robby McClung, the Islamorada half marathon, one of the most popular half marathons in Florida, is scheduled for December 5th and 6th, 2020. Three other events, the 10K race, 5k race, and the Beach N’ Beer will also be held. Despite setbacks from COVID-19 they are still hopeful that we will be able to produce a fun, safe and socially distanced event. This is the sixth year that the half marathon will be held. It has grown in popularity over the years, due, in no small measure, to the scenic route along the Florida Keys.
According to sources, the Beach N’ Beer run presents a fun challenge with participants expected to chug four beers over a mile’s run. The events also offer great opportunities for volunteers who wish to gain experience and broaden their network. There are many exciting activities to enjoy in the Florida Keys area; the Dry Tortugas National Park is popular with visitors, and you don’t have to be a literature buff to visit The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. There is accommodation available to suit all budgets and needs.

Robby McClung of the Islamorada Running Company said, “Eli and Robby have been close friends since their high school days at Coral Shores here in the Florida Keys. Eli has been living in the greater Boston area and has been organizing road races with his company Green Stride which he founded over 10 years ago. Robby currently lives in Davis, West Virginia, and organizes the Canaan Valley Half Marathon. He also organizes well-known local Islamorada events such as the BayGrass Bluegrass Festival. It was only natural for them to get together to create a new half marathon and 10K in one of the most beautiful islands in the Florida Keys. Aside from the race, they plan to create an epic atmosphere that will make this ‘must run’ destination event for many years.”
Sharing some information on the preparations for the races, McClung said, “We are working exceptional hard on putting together a plan to make sure we have a fun and safe event during these unprecedented times. The first beer or alcohol beverage after the race is on us. A medical team will be onsite for any hiccups that happen. 13.1 miles is a long way, so train well and listen to your body on race day, please!”
